23rd Feb Chaguaramas bay Trinidad

Well that’s Carnival over, I did go and see the pan band finals,

enjoyable and noisy, but it took 3 ½ hrs to get back to Chaguaramas, a journey that usually takes about ½ hr; and the carnival parade on Tuesday, which I was surprised to find was a competition, so the bands strutted their stuff in front of the judges and then started breaking up, the stand I got into was beside the judges stand so got a reasonable view as to what it is all about.

Other than that I have been getting the final coats of paint over the new welds, cleaning the hull and doing some of the many little jobs that I keep  putting off, and of course just kicking back in the sunshine.

I am sitting in the outside cockpit enjoying the rum and coke left behind by Billy, who came over for the weekend from Venezuela with his son Nick; and which was a welcome break from the rut I had got into, looking for, collecting and fitting parts and generally just kicking back (I think I have slipped into the local mindset, there is always tomorrow) since he had hired a car, we took a drive around the North of the Island looking at jungle, beaches and a river (looking for the falls)

This morning I chased up the boom, which has not left UK yet, but I am assured will be dispatched on Thursday or Friday, with carnival being next weekend (and Monday and Tuesday) I won’t be getting it until at best the end of next week, and collected the sails which were sitting ready for me and at less than the quoted price! I even got a coat of paint on the deck, which I started last week but was stopped by rain. The water tanks have now been replaced and refilled and the stations and crosstree welded primed and undercoated, so bit by bit we are getting there, anyway its getting dark and my glass is nearly empty so cheers for now.
